Byekwaso has been part of the Centenary family since 2012, when he joined Centenary Bank Uganda as General Manager Finance.

In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director at Centenary Bank Limited in Malawi before later being elevated to Managing Director, where he successfully oversaw the institution’s turnaround to profitability.

He now returns to Uganda to take charge of one of the country’s leading commercial banks at a time when the financial sector continues to evolve rapidly through digital transformation, financial inclusion initiatives, and regional expansion.

The Board commended Fabian Kasi for his stewardship and contribution to the growth of the institution over the last decade and a half.

“The entire Board extends thanks to the incumbent Managing Director, Mr. Fabian Kasi, for the years of service to our institution to bring it to the status it holds in the banking industry and private sector business at large,” the statement added.

Before joining the Centenary Group, Byekwaso served in several senior executive positions within the financial services sector, including Regional Finance Manager at FINCA International for the Africa Region between 2009 and 2012, where he supervised multi-country financial operations.

He also previously served as Finance and Administration Manager at FINCA Uganda between 2004 and 2007, gaining extensive experience in financial management, operational leadership, and institutional development.

Beyond executive management, Byekwaso has served on several boards and professional bodies across the region.

He previously served as a Board Member and Chairperson of the Operations Committee at the Bankers Association of Malawi and was also a member of the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe in Malawi.

Byekwaso is additionally recognized as a member of the Global Preparers Forum, a committee affiliated with the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation, reflecting his expertise in accounting, governance, and financial reporting standards.

He brings more than 26 years of progressive experience in banking, finance, operations, advisory, and consultancy, much of it at executive leadership level, including 11 years with Centenary Rural Development Bank in Uganda.

In his new role, he will oversee all bank operations, guide the execution of strategic objectives, and maintain the institution’s focus on operational excellence, innovation, and customer-centered banking services.

Centenary Bank remains one of Uganda’s largest commercial banks by customer base, with a strong footprint in retail banking, agricultural finance, and microfinance services, particularly among rural and low-income communities.

Academically, Byekwaso holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, both from Makerere University.

He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), a Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
